One Sunday a month, we get together with a great group of girls for book club. Typically, the girl who picks that month’s book hosts the gathering, and we pick the next book (from suggestions placed in a hat) when we’re done discussing the latest read. We’ve been doing this since March, and we think it’s about time to start sharing the books that we really enjoy with you all for our own blogger book club! Today, we’re discussing The Circle by Dave Eggers.
This book was so much fun to read because it’s set in the very near future. The main character, Mae, gets a job at one of the coolest places to work in the world – a tech company called The Circle (kind of Facebook/Apple/Google all rolled into one). The story is a fictional account of what could happen if technological companies started to gain as much (or more) power than the government – it’s basically 1984 meets The Internship. In a time when oversharing has become a normal practice and we’re constantly seeking the validation of others through likes, comments, reviews, etc., this book will probably make you put your phone down the next time you’re having dinner with your boyfriend or family.
Let us know if you’ve read the book, plan to read it, or what we should read next in the comments!
We’re looking forward to having a blogger book club with anyone who wants to join.
